I tell you that because when we arrived today, we looked at our son, then at each other in surprise. Jayden had changed his looks! He is now a BIG boy of 7 lbs. 5 oz, having gained 2 1/2 oz. just last night! He now is LONG and SKINNY. It's like he had a growth spurt, and instead of gaining that weight in baby rolls, he gained it by stretching out his body! He looked so healthy. We've gotten kind of used to seeing him with extra liquid aboard, so it was great to see him looking like a normal baby! His face is thinner now, but he still has that cute double chin. :)
He also looked different in the eyes. Because of his bilirubin, he has always had a pale yellow tint to his skin and eyes. Today the whites of his eyes actually looked white! He looked so good!
The doctor told us things look great. Jayden is tolerating his feedings well and is up to 19 ml/hr. At the beginning of this coming week, they plan to retract his tube into his stomach. After several days, if no problems arise, they are going to try to give him a bottle. These are HUGE steps for our son. Please continue to pray that as he takes these baby steps his body cooperates!
In addition, he's down to almost always only breathing 21% air, which is what you and I breathe. This is another HUGE step for him. He is still on the nasal cannula, however, because he is still having that room air pumped into him to help him keep his trachea open. He started with 6 liters of flow, but now he is down to 4 liters and doing great. The doctors hope to wean him down to 3 sometime next week. Again, please pray for him as he has many new adjustments he needs to go through before he can come home.
We got a few pictures that one of our nurses took of Jayden after he had ripped all his cables out. Now we know what his face looks like! As soon as we get them scanned, I'll post at least one so you can see him without all his wires. Of course, he's changed looks again since those were taken, but it at least will be nice for all of you to see his whole face! :)
Thanks for your continued prayers! We appreciate each of you!

Hi April! Thanks for leaving a comment. We miss you guys, too. Hope to see you again soon. I'll give Jayden Asher's message! :)
Yeah, Jewel, he's still not HUGE, but he's definitely looking more "normal" and baby-like (instead of bird-like!).
Yes, Vickie! We are thrilled and thanking the Lord! It was great to be able to share with the students. Thanks so much for inviting us to minister alongside of you. It was such a blessing for us. Thanks for the surprise, too! We weren't expecting that at all!
You are so welcome Betsy! You were such a blessing to us. The 8th graders really liked you and were wondering if you and Gerson would come and eat lunch with them one day and then they wanted to know if Gerson would play soccer with them after lunch for a recess time?
Oh --- HOW FUN!! We would love to, Vickie! Gerson is probably traveling to McAllen, TX next week, but after he get back we'll try to do that!
