We had a special Easter this year. Jayden had his first Easter egg hunt. Our church had the hunt for the children's ministry on Wednesday evening before Easter. Jayden took part, although he didn't quite get the idea of looking for eggs. He kind of just sat there and looked at the eggs that had been thrown randomly on the grass for the smallest kids. We are celebrating his life! He's been home with us for just over a year and it has been awesome to see him making great strides physically as he grows and develops. We are so thankful.
The weekend was also special because Mom, Dad, and Jamie all came. Although our house was full, we still had time to rest and relax. We had several games of Settlers of Catan, took naps, played with Jayden, cooked a LOT of food, and overall enjoyed being together.
We also celebrated another life --- Jamie's! My sis was born 28 years ago in a pick-up truck in Honduras on the way to the hospital. I was a little 5 year old, but I remember waking up, hearing her cry, and giving my mom my blankie for her to wrap my new sister in. I'm so thankful the Lord gave me a little sis. What a blessing she has been in my life! I love you, Jamie.(By the way, Mom cooked our scrumptious lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, and strawberry pie! YUM! Thanks, Mom!)
On Saturday night we went to Ivanhoe's to take a break from the kitchen, as well as to eat some yummy ice cream. While we were there, a man came by our table and offered to make something for us out of balloons. Gerson couldn't resist. He told the man we were celebrating Jamie's birthday! The man happily made Jamie a tiara. She was a champ and wore it with pride all through supper.
She continued to wear it back at the house, too. Jayden knows a princess when he sees one!
On Easter Sunday, we celebrated our resurrected Lord! Gerson, Jamie and I attended 2 different churches. When we arrived home, we hid 2 Easter baskets --- one for Dad and one for Mom. You see, my parents always bought us Easter baskets and hid them. We had to find them. Jamie and I decided that this year we'd buy them for Mom and Dad. They were super surprised!
It was fun to watch Mom and Dad look for their baskets, and then it was cute to watch how excited they were about them. They told us it was the first time they'd ever RECEIVED Easter baskets. They were used to GIVING them. It was fun to swap things up a bit! Their reactions were just precious.
I also bought stuff for an Easter basket for Jayden and Gerson. I put all their stuff in one basket and told Gerson he'd have to figure out what was for him and what was for our son! He's pretty clever and was able to figure it out! All in all, it was one celebration after another, all weekend long. However, we really missed the part of our family who was missing. My older brother Peter is deployed in Iraq. Please pray the Lord will protect him and he can be a light for Jesus where he is. My younger brother Andy and his family were unable to come due to work. We missed seeing all of them, but hope to see them at the end of May.
